Ryan McMahon

Ryan McMahon is a distinguished Anishinaabe comedian, writer, media creator, and community advocate, rooted in Treaty #1 territory (Winnipeg, MB). He holds a degree in Theatre and is an alumnus of the renowned Second City Conservatory in Toronto. Known for his rapid-fire, irreverent comedic storytelling, Ryan deftly navigates the complexities of Indian Country and its intersections with mainstream culture.

Since launching his career in 2010, McMahon has produced three national comedy specials: "Welcome To Turtle Island Too," "UnReserved," and "Red Man Laughing." Additionally, he has performed two Gala sets at the esteemed Winnipeg Comedy Festival. In a groundbreaking achievement for Indigenous representation, Ryan became the first Native comedian to record a full-length mainstream comedy special for CBC TV with "Ryan McMahon - UnReserved" in 2012. That same year, he made his debut at the iconic Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, where he was featured on the NEW FACES list.

His most recent full-length CBC comedy special, "Red Man Laughing," aired nationwide on CBC Radio 1 in 2015. In 2017, Ryan is set to tour Canada with his new live show "Wreck-On Silly Nation," addressing significant themes such as reconciliation and Canada’s 150th anniversary, alongside the humorous nuances of moose meat pie.

Beyond performance, McMahon has contributed his writing talents to prominent publications including The Globe and Mail, VICE, CBC, CBC Aboriginal, and APTN.
