Relja Bašić

Relja Bašić, born on February 14, 1930, in Croatia, was a distinguished actor whose remarkable career spanned over fifty years. He made his film debut in the classic 1954 movie *Koncert*, and throughout his life, he showcased his incredible versatility by taking on a wide array of roles in numerous films, including many international collaborations. While he never achieved the status of a conventional star, Bašić became one of Croatia's most recognizable and reliable character actors, often portraying charming, aristocratic villains, particularly in historical narratives centered around World War II. His most iconic performance came in the cult classic musical comedy *Tko pjeva zlo ne misli* from 1970, where he portrayed the memorable character Mr. Fulir.

In addition to his acting career, Bašić was politically active in the 1990s, aligning himself with the Croatian Social Liberal Party. He ran as a candidate in the 1992 parliamentary elections in Zagreb but lost to HDZ's Nedjeljko Mihanović under contentious circumstances. However, he later secured a seat in the upper house of the Croatian Parliament representing the City of Zagreb. Bašić was also honored as a UNESCO Artist for Peace.

In the years leading up to his passing on April 7, 2017, in Zagreb, he faced health challenges due to a femur fracture that limited his mobility. Despite this, his legacy as a celebrated actor endures in Croatian cinema.
